Worldwide Database Management Systems 2009-2013 Forecast and 2008 Vendor Shares

This IDC study presents vendor shares for 2008, and a five-year forecast for 2009–2013 for both the nonrelational database management system and the relational database management system software markets. It also considers these two database management system software markets in combination.

"The DBMS markets are entering a period of transition in terms of both new licensing models and new database management technologies," says Carl Olofson, research vice president, Information Management and Data Integration Software Research Program at IDC. "This is a market space that offers exciting opportunities for new technology providers, and great deals for database users, but one that also will confront the existing leading incumbents with significant challenges in the latter years of the forecast period."
