In 2008, HP was the top vendor in terms of revenue share in the Japan RISC and IA64 server market. "HP's sales of RISC and IA64 servers have increased due to the support of OEM sales. However, large-scale contracts from the communications/media industry (which is HP's specialty) have decreased and other vendors have caught up with HP," says Masamichi Karasawa, senior market analyst, Server, IDC Japan.
