Worldwide Database Management Systems 20102014 Forecast: An Initial Look

This IDC study presents a five-year forecast from 2010 to 2014 for each of two markets: the nonrelational database management systems software market and the relational database management systems software market, as well as a combination of the two.

"The DBMS markets are poised on the verge of major changes," says Carl Olofson, research vice president for Database Management and Data Integration Software research at IDC. "These changes will be driven by increased use of clustering and virtualization in a mode of deployment known as cloud computing, by a rising tide of open source DBMS usage, and by new technologies and usage paradigms for databases."
