Scandinavia was not territorially significant but it was strategically vital. The Germans relied heavily on Swedish iron ore to feed their war effort and the occupation of Denmark and Norway was inevitable. They found it no easy task against harassment by Mosquitoes and Blenheims of RAF Coastal Command. In 1943 Mosquitos and Mustangs carried out some of the most daring raids of the war including the destruction of Gestapo headquarters in Aarhus and Copenhagen.
