Before Social Media, texting, blogging and long conversations on cell phones while sitting in large pools of afternoon traffic...we expressed ourselves through the lyrics of our favorite songs on the radio.
Until MTV our minds were forced to create the pictures...but it still didn't have the proper mixture to melt away what we keep hidden during times that feel longer than forever.
Facing the present means living in the past leaving no time for the future and yet it's born everyday.
Somewhere on your personal journey someone's going to ask, "What was it like to be alive before the year 2000?" The only thing you hold are paper pictures where the interviewer will be stuck making up their own conclusion.
I challenged myself to write for a thousand days...believing somewhere in the ink blotches and scratched out blunders my love for poetry would shine brighter than my passion for radio. What I learned was something deeper...when you learn to trust your thoughts while letting go of opinion, what you write has the ability to change other people's lives.
Inspired as well as influenced by Julia Cameron's The Artist Way...these daily pages gave birth to a world of art now visible in galleries and homes across America.
By trusting instinct while erasing the pressures of being a perfectionist, I've learned a valuable lesson of expression. When there is art we have the ability to affect the next seven generations.
