They call the Northern Plains The Big Empty, and even now it is lightly settled. It wouldn’t take much to restore it to its original condition, with buffalo grazing its vast grassy reaches, along with antelope and elk. Billionaire Laslo Horoney, holds to this with an ecological dream, and hopes to restore the High Plains to what they were before settlement.

But many are dead set against the dream, such as Cameron Nichols, whose family has ranched the plains for three generations, and whose people have deep roots in eastern Montana. When Horoney begins buying up ranches in Montana and turning them into his vast buffalo commons, trouble brews, especially when ecologists and misguided environmentalists get involved.

Those fiercely opposed believe Horoney is undoing everything that people have built in the prairie lands. So the entrepreneur and the ranching families, become involved in a titanic struggle for the good earth, each adhering to a vision of what is right and good.
