This IDC study presents IDC's yearly analysis of the IT project services market and all its components. The first part looks at the market developments and vendor shares in 2009, breaking the market down into four segments — IT consulting, network consulting and integration services (NCIS), system integration (SI) and custom application development (CAD).The Finnish project services market took an unprecedented hit in 2009, with a drop of 5.2%. The drop in demand for project services was a direct response to the financial crisis that struck the entire western world during 2008 and 2009.
"Due to the nature of the business, the effect on the market was not visible for most vendors until the beginning of 2009," says Brian Troelsen, research director, IDC Nordic. "Going forward, we expect a slow market rebound during 2H10 and 2011, but we will not return to the heydays of 2006–1H08. Offshoring is becoming increasingly accepted by the enterprise community. That poses both an opportunity for local vendors to offer more blended rates-based projects, and at the same, time opening up for new breeds of competitors — the so-called 'globals'," ended Brian Troelsen.
