TWINS GOOD AND EVIL

Wonderful novel of a family coming to the states in 1870 era to begin a new life. They have a young daughter and twin sons. They are charged to oversee Spanish Oaks Plantation and manage the field hands who they consider part of their extended family. Mama Rosa has the old traditional Italian values and beliefs engraved into her mind. She favors one son above the other. Because Philippe was born first and Andre second, she gives favor and the title of 'big man of the family' to the first born. Through out their lifetimes they are in conflict and one becomes a slacker the other sees the wrongs and cowards and bends to keep peace beneath the 'big man' of the family'. The story is interesting, frightening, loving, but has forced labor, unbelievable tragic events, and times of devotion and deep affection and sacrifice.
