Cloud Computing and Virtualization in Ireland, 2010
Book Details
Description
The markets for cloud computing and virtualization are linked but are at different stages of development in the Irish market. Virtualization adoption has considerable momentum even in the midst of the recession. Cost saving is the primary driver of virtualization in the Irish market and well ahead of other considerations such as management/maintenance or features/functionality.
Cloud computing is at a very early stage of market development in Ireland. The development of the market is being severely hampered by a lack of awareness and understanding of cloud computing. Despite the slow start to the market IDC forecasts strong growth for cloud software services in the period 2009–2014.
"Despite the recession and considerable pressure on IT budgets, virtualization continues to maintain momentum in Ireland and this will continue," said study author John Gilsenan. "Cloud computing, on the other hand, is at a very early stage of development. A major education program by suppliers must continue if it is to reach its potential. We are confident that this will happen and predict strong growth in the next five years."
John Gilsenan has specialized in the Irish ICT market for over 15 years. His unique perspective on the ICT market provides unrivalled insight into market trends.
