"Sweet" Memories

Some of my earliest and most cherished childhood recollections are of my mother and grandmother baking cookies, breads, and desserts. There was always a spot "at the board" for the children to help and learn. We were given a piece of dough to work with, and were so proud to show off what we had accomplished.

These were wonderful times, not just for the gratification that comes only from creating, but for sharing past memories and making new ones, with family. Our discussions, half in English and half in Italian, ranged from the significance of preserving traditional ways to sharing our thoughts and dreams for the future. All while experiencing the pure joy of baking.

My purpose in gathering these recipes together is not only to preserve their integrity, but to pass along all that goes with them. The importance of heritage, ideals, and love of family, as was taught to me.

There's no greater gift than that!
