The pages of The Miami Metropolis reported every new house built, every new business opened, every vote recorded in the meeting of incorporation, seemingly every marriage, birth and death. By another stroke of luck, a chain of librarians at the newspaper kept intact a remarkable collection of photographs dating back to the first days of this community. The collection is a treasure! Howard Kleinberg, editor of the Miami News utilized this resource in articles in the Spring of 1981. By using actual reprints of newspaper articles written on the day of Miami's historic moments, nothing would be left to theory. That is the philosophy behind the newspaper series which is reprinted, in part, in this book.
