Greater Than the Sum of My Parts
Description
Greater Than the Sum of My Parts: My Triumph Over Dissociative Identity Disorder
Dissociative Identity Disorder is a coping mechanism developed by children who were sexually abused before age 7 (DSM diagnosis.)
This autobiography was originally written as a self case study, intended to present a unique case of DID that achieved integration without the use of memory recovery therapy, which was so controversial it made the existence of DID controversial, and without abreaction treatment, a standard feature of most books about DID/ MPD but which seems traumatic and overly dependance-inducing.  This book presents a unique treatment, never before seen in the psychological literature.
But this memoir is so much more than that. It's the story of a life--my life. It's the story of my childhood, both the good parts and the bad, and the story of how I picked up the pieces of my life and put all the puzzle pieces together, to become the whole, sane person I am today. It's a story of recovery, a story of hope, a story that shows a human being can overcome anything with enough hard work. Â
This is life as I lived it, raw, unpredictable, confusing, and ultimately transformative and enlightening.
