Description

This IDC study presents IDC Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ's top 10 predictions for the enterprise applications (EA) and business analytics (BA) markets. The list discussed in this study includes factors that we believe will have the biggest commercial impact on the EA and BA markets across APEJ in 2011. While it seems that the global financial crisis (GFC) has not yet seen its end, and potential W-shaped recession patterns still pose a threat, it is clear that Asia has not been affected in the same way as the Western economies were, making unsynchronized global recovery more evident. In fact, we saw the region slowly emerging and building back its confidence levels in 2010, with ICT spending growing by a 10.3%.

"The software industry is going through a major transformation. Not too long ago, the software debate mainly focuses on whether it was better to buy or to build EA. Game-changing models (e.g., the cloud, socialytic applications, smart pricing) are transforming the EA market. These are increasingly being viewed by organizations as facilitators to help them compete more efficiently, with the cloud, for example, bringing undeniable benefits as a new sourcing strategy. In that respect, while some would argue that the cloud is just a new way of looking at the also long-standing debate around whether to keep applications in-house or to outsource them to a third party, IDC believes that software-as-a-service (SaaS) growth will significantly outpace that of traditional software product delivery in the region, cannibalizing traditional software revenues in the future," says Daniel-Zoe Jimenez, program manager, APEJ Enterprise Applications and Information Management, IDC Asia/Pacific.
