Bird's Eye View

Why does God allow certain things to happen that don’t seem fair? Our story joins a pilgrim on an ancient trail, a pilgrim who cannot see justice in God’s providence. He loses his faith before our eyes. An angel comes to reveal something of how God works. The Pilgrim feels the presence of someone near him. A vessel of fear tips near his heart and pours cold rivulets through his bowels. A hawk floats overhead. In compensation for his limited soul, it was granted to the Hawk to hang at killer heights and see spirits invisible to men; to observe the comings and goings of demons; to join the warfare of angels … to see glowing souls rising from men’s broken chests.
