Crosscurrents

It is 1993. Kate Dennis, sailing south to north in the Great Lakes on the restored 1920’s sloop Valkyrie, finds herself in the chilly waters of Lake Huron and the boat suddenly nowhere to be seen. The strangeness intensifies—rescuers turn rogue, rough forts are hotbeds of revolt, and the wilderness is vast and virgin. As the current year reveals itself to be 1763, Kate struggles to survive, to understand the unsettled aftermath of the French and Indian War, and to return to her own time. But a Lake Superior canoe journey with an estranged Scotsman and a half-breed Ojibwe reveals new paths for Kate, both within and without, and a future unforeseen.
