Description

Sell Yourself Short is a 2500 word guide (equivalent to 10 paperback pages) targeted at the beginning writer who wants to learn how to write short stories. The book provides basic guidance on idea generation, character development, setting the scene, and plot construction.

Note that this is not a definitive guide to the process of writing short stories.  Instead, it's more of a "quick start" guide to get the ball rolling at minimal cost (the price is the lowest that Amazon will allow) and minimal time investment.  If you have prior experience writing short stories, this is not the book for you.

The author is an experienced short story writer, with more than one hundred short stories to his credit.

Here's a teaser - a bit of advice on how to set a scene:

... I pointed out a key difference between a novel and a short story - the extent that you can describe your surroundings.  I provided the following examples:

Short story: Kirsten walked across the room and turned on the lamp.

Novel: Kirsten's scarlet stilettos drummed out a melodic series of clicks as she strode purposefully across the marble floor. When she arrived at the mahogany table in the corner, she flipped the switch on the ancient lamp. The compact fluorescent bulb fluttered for a short moment before realizing its full potential and bathing the room in light.

These examples are a bit extreme.  It's definitely acceptable to use more than ten words to describe an action.  You must be careful to avoid going overboard though - the longer description uses 56 words to have Kirsten turn the light on ...
