Description
Chester County, and the town of Chester, was named after Chester County, Pennsylvania by the first settlers of the region who were mainly Scotch-Irish from Pennsylvania and Virginia. Initially under Craven County, Chester County was formed in 1785 as paert of the larger Camden District but was later transferred to Pinckney District (1791-1800); Chester became a separate district in 1800.
