Western Mercia AD 874
The ancient forest sprawls away west, over the horizon and across the border into the wild, mountainous barbarian lands. Dark and forbidding; the domain of the little people. Out of bounds to all but a few humans, yet it is inevitably in retreat; away from the slow, insatiable onslaught of mankind.
Close within its eastern border, a small Celtic village unobtrusively ekes out a living in peace; untroubled by rumours of invasion and war. Existing in relativeharmony with their environment; respectful of the natural, but in awe of the supernatural.
One faerie elder, guardian of the forest, has decided however, that enough is enough.
One innocent young girl, ignorant of her ability, crosses the boundary:
