The Veil

In 1984 the Indian town of Meerut was reeling under Hindu-Muslim riot, , gun shots were fired from both the sides from time to time, curfew imposed in the town for long hours. Schools, colleges were closed for months, business down, people stayed put in their homes as much as they could unless it was for their daily needs etc. In the midst of everything, a muslim girl, Sakeena took the courage to visit her Hindu tailor’s house to order her wedding trousseau as during that time, mobile phones and the readymade garments boom had not hit India so hard. She also placed an order to embroider her wedding veil to the tailor’s assistant, a girl called Purnima. One morning Purnima set out from her home in the Hindu colony to deliver ‘the veil’ to her muslim client to her house in Muslim colony…the story is about what happens thereafter….
