Description
To most Indians Mahatma Gandhi is the father of the nation. But not everyone is sure that he was as good a father to his own children as he was to the nation.
The novel depicts the musings, ravings and somewhat cynical reflections of Harilal, Gandhij's eldest son while waiting at a railway station to catch a glimpse of his mother who is passing that way. Though one does see an undercurrent of admiration and regard in Harilal's thoughts, it is clear he sees his father as a tyrant in whose priorities he believes himself to have been placed far lower than he deserved.
The persons and the events described in the book are by and large real. Yet it is a work of fiction. E. Vasu has presented Gandhiji, Kastur Ba and Harilal, the principal characters, with a sympathy and understanding that is sure to enable the reader to see them in a new light.
