Idiopathic epilepsy is a betrayal of the body by the brain. Its best known manifestation is the grand mal seizure, which steals consciousness and drops the body with violent muscle contractions. It is rarely cured and fights all efforts at control. It will often wait until the mind believes the latest treatment has worked and the seizures have ended, then strikes again.

The worst cases are constant cycles of seizures and treatments, followed by more seizures and more treatments. It's a matter of time before a seizure-induced injury or death occurs.

Steve Coughlin is a worst case. So when he finds a doctor who is known worldwide for treating previously uncontrolled epilepsy, he considers himself lucky to become her patient. She even works at the same hospital as him. Then without his permission, she releases his records and a series of frightening events occur that endanger both his sanity and prospects for a long life.
