Description

Famous British comedian Spike Milligan once quipped that Woy Woy was ‘the world’s only above-ground cemetery’. By the way, his mother lived there.

Situated in Australia between Sydney and Newcastle, many travellers stick to the expressway between the two cities, and miss out on Woy Woy.

The satirical poems in this book are inspired (or uninspired) by the author living at Woy Woy. Woy Woy even gets a mention in some.

This collection is certainly an eclectic mix. Neil Dufty has been called the 'Weird Al Jankovic of Poetry' (amongst other things!) for his quirky takes on well-known
songs and poems. There are several of this type of poem in the book including 'The Pizza Man' (based on 'The Highwayman' by Alfred J. Noyes), 'Fried Beauty' (based on 'Pied Beauty' by G.M. Hopkins) and 'My Mullet' from a song by a fellow named Billy Ray.
.
Neil Dufty also likes to write poems in different characters (the Woy Woy influence?) including Rapper Duff Daddy (the ageing rapper) and Slim Dufty (the Aussie bush balladeer).

There are poems about Obama, Osama, karma, the Dalai Lama (well maybe not the latter).

And poems about growing older, going bald, going to the dentist.....poems to uplift the spirits!
