Up until the age of seven the protagonist was a happy young girl living in Brooklyn, New York with parents who loved and nutured her. Driving home from an ideal day at Coney Island fate struck with an ululating blow with unappealable consequences when another car collided with theirs leaving their surviving daughter an orphan with no living relatives deposited into an orphanage awaiting an unknown fate.
