Sustainable development has become important to all of us. Behind the scenes, a rapidly growing revolution in sustainable communities offers seeds of a sustainable human future. The eco-village movement comprises small communities with a high degree of self-sufficiency. Malcolm and Christine visited and studies eleven eco-village sustainable communities in Australia, the US and Europe. This book describes these communities and reviews 8 key issues in founding and managing eco-villages: Building the legal foundations; Finding the money; Community sharing versus individual responsibility; Creating a caring, sharing community; Making decisions and managing conflicts; Making a living; Land selection and community design; and Technologies. This is followed by discussion of what makes a community an eco-village, and an imaginative glimpse of a sustainable future based on eco-village communities. The book concludes with three appendices of informaiton useful for studying and managing eco-vllages and sustainable communities.
