ORLEANS PARISH, & STATE DEATHS, & BIRTHS
Records are from microfilm of parish and state records. Marriages, and deaths are from the register’s books, and some were taken from newspapers, tombstone inscriptions, obits, and public library card files.

Death records are of Charity Hospital death index, newspapers, and microfilm of civil records as I obtained them over many years. It gives the surnames, given, age, gender, native land, last residence, and some records provided the cause of death. These were copied as they were filmed. I can not account for any wrong spellings, are incorrect information.

In the case of the state deaths, mother’s death certificate, and the parish where the death accrued is given, including the volume and page numbers where the records can be obtained from Louisiana State Archives, and births 1820- 1900. Births after that must be obtained from Louisiana Vital Records Dept. in New Orleans, LA. .

Marriages can be obtained from Louisiana State Archives in Baton Rouge, La. In most cases Italians were married in church and the certificate was not returned to the register’s office. Church records can be obtained from the church or Archives , where the marriage, funeral or baptism was performed.

From the Louisiana Archives, there is a small fee and can also be obtained by writing to the archives. You can also visit the archives and copy the certificate yourself for less then a dollar.

This covers Italians from 1820- 1947, and some later.
There were very few listed in the early years of 1800s, but a larger number as they came to the port and settled in the state and beyond. You may see more then one record for the same person because they were listed by a different spelling.

Some numbers were not clear and are indicated by a blank or ??. Other records
with very little correct information, was left out.
