I am a professional carpenter by trade. I designed and built this skateboard ramp and it has been heavily used. This set of plans is optimized to be cheap, easy to build and to efficiently use standard lumber, like dimensional 2x4s and 4x8 plywood. In addition, the material list specifically chooses materials that can easily fit into a normal car. The entire process is fairly simple, requiring nothing more than a handsaw and a screwdriver, so I am confident that this design could be built by pretty much anybody.
The total cost of a half-pipe would be around $550, with a quarter-pipe at half of that ($275). You could beat those prices by going to a local lumber yard.
