Understanding Paul Ricoeur's "Oneself as Another"

This essay offers in-depth analysis of Paul Ricour's text "Oneself as Another." Each chapter is reviewed, and significant concepts of critical hermeneutics are explored. Ricoeur offers an understanding of our ontological status as inclusive of the self, ipse-identity; the other, idem-identity; and the dialectic of the two. Ricour's text re-awakens the concept that individual identity may not be defined without the context of the other in a shared world.
