When the skinny collie limped into Josie's life two years ago, it was love at first sight. The vet had mended his injured paw, and Josie had mended his broken heart. She named him Duke and, when Mom wasn't looking, Josie always sneaked him his favorite food --sandwiches.

Josie and Duke go everywhere together. They are even together when a big storm hit, but in Josie's panic, she forgets about Duke. Now, because of her, Duke is trapped outside and in danger.
