The Castle Diaries

The Castle Diaries tells the story of three women challenged to find love and respect under very different circumstances. Emma Richmond is an intelligent and resourceful woman pushing the boundaries of the ‘allowable’ for a woman in the late nineteenth century, and in 1935, Linetta Spenser struggles to free herself from the controlling father who ruined her early marriage. In the present day, Beth Daniels, soured on love by infidelity and divorce, has settled into a comfortable existence that combines editing a weekly newspaper with the occasional date she makes certain is destined to go nowhere. She vows never again to risk love. Her resolve is shaken when she finds the diaries of Emma and Linetta, and reads of the passion that changed their lives. As the local historical society and a contractor of questionable reputation move to renovate Richmond Castle, Beth is forced to face her conflicting emotions. The castle holds secrets – missing art treasures, unexplained disappearances, murder, and the hidden stories of Emma and Linetta. Beth must find a way to protect the two women she so admires while also countering the criminal schemes underlying the renovation – and she must do so while also facing her increasing attraction to the sensitive, intelligent and just plain fun, Nate Riley.
