Them Laney Boys

During the 1980s a family of soldiers emerges in the city of Compton. As a family they gain a reputation as riders for their set (gang). Raised as second generation Crips each of the five brothers emerge in their own way to street fame. Through wars, feuds, police raids and scandalous women they fight through it all. As each boy approaches manhood they face the dilemma of finding themselves in the cold streets. At every turn they find that the journey to manhood is not an easy task when the concrete is your home.
Excerpt: “I should kill you cuz. I promised my mama that I wouldn’t shoot yo punk ass. If Moe hadn’t agreed to do that dumb shit you would be dead. Don’t you ever think about violating my cousin again nigga.” Baby Gangster said in a low but sinister tone.
“Naw Baby Gangster cuz I didn’t know that she was related to you. I thought she was Janelle’s homegirl…”
Baby Gangster’s pistol crashed into his forehead interrupting his words. He didn’t want any explanation. There was nothing that he could say to explain this. He gave Turtle time to regain his sense.
“Look here cuz, if I was to tell my brothers J-Ridah or Gangster they would have smoked you on the spot. So you getting a mercy pass because of a few things. First off she didn’t get raped and she agreed to do it. So my moms thinks you should live because of that. She came to me because any other brother would have killed yo ass cuz. So listen and listen good. You come around Monique or anything I won’t tell my brothers shit. I will smoke yo punk pretty ass myself and that’s on Alondra Block.”
Baby Gangster stood up totally erect waiting to get a reply. After a few seconds he walked to the driver’s side of his car still looking at Turtle. Turtle slowly lifted himself from the ground holding his forehead. Baby Gangster looked at Turtle one last time before getting into his Cadillac.
