Description

The principal character discovers his wife is having an affair, and in a drunken rage he humiliates her publicly in front of a party of friends and family. He claims to be able to read minds, to avoid admitting he had her followed. In the crowd of witnesses to this charade, there is a senior member of Military Intelligence present. Can the man from MI5 ignore the mind reading claim? Such ability would be an invaluable asset to the Service. In the wrong hands that same ability would put the Service at severe risk. The mind reading claim could not be ignored, particularly as subsequent events and circumstances compound the original deception. As result the principal character finds he is being pursued by MI5, who enlist the help of the CIA to apprehend him. At the same time, in October 1983, the Americans are contemplating invading a small Caribbean island called Grenada. A recent coup on the island had installed a Marxist Revolutionary government with ties to Cuba and Russia, and they were engaged in building an airport capable of handling Russian bombers. This was three decades before the euphemisms, ‘pre-emptive strike’ and ‘regime change’, were coined, but these concepts were exactly what the Americans needed to neutralize the threat on their doorstep. At this time the ‘Cold War’ was still alive and kicking, so the Americans needed a strong, valid excuse to invade the island. Grenada was a former colony of the United Kingdom, and MI5 offer to provide a convincing excuse and to support the invasion, because the main character had taken refuge on the island. In this intriguing thriller with a charming romantic sub-plot, the author skilfully weaves his characters seamlessly into the real events as they happened. The story is written from two different perspectives, hence the title; from the principal character being pursued by Military Intelligence and from those pursuing him. The plausible and convincing characters are supported by realistic and often humorous dialogue.
