Robert wants to master Lucid Dreaming: becoming conscious in his dreams and then directing them in whatever direction he wishes. Already he has had some minor success in affecting who he dreams about, but has never become lucid while dreaming.

 

Then, at an auction, he picks up a photo of a striking young woman and attempts to put her into his dream. Success greets his effort on a scale he hadn't believed possible. Now his dream world, with a dream girl who caters to his ever whim, has become more attractive than the real one. However, there is something strange about Trudi. How is it that she speaks a language that he doesn't know? Why do his dreams of her have a continuity that rivals that of the real world? Robert has his doubts, but Trudi's charms captivate him.
