Description

A short essay of 1,104 words on the correlation between success and the Conflict Theory.

Preview of first paragraph and a half:

Conflict theory is based on the basic idea of a struggle for supremacy between competing social groups. These social groups include class, gender, race, and religion. Conflict Theorists believe that those who are most powerful within a group make the rules for success and opportunity in society, which results in a monopolization of power, privilege, and authority. This in turn, results in competition for more power and material things in every single social system (Bartos & Wehr, 202).
When applied to the idea of success in America, the Conflict Theory stands to provide an intuitive explanation. Simply put, those who are born into families with more economic and social dominance are more likely to succeed (Andersen & Taylor, 2006). If an individual is afforded more opportunities, such as better options for education, better chances to network, then they will be more likely candidates for the best job opportunities.
