Breaking Point

Based on a true story, this book chronicles the psychological episodic break of a loved one who felt powerless when standing up to the tyrannical actions of a power-starved and wholly unrestrained Ph.D. Dissertation Chair. This book reveals how even the most well-balanced person can reach their breaking point when they lose all hope of correcting a wrong that everyone else sees, but is unwilling to step-up and correct. In addition to being a suspenseful thriller, the story takes place in its actual setting of the Hawaiian Islands, a paradise for many, but not for all.

A Ph.D. is the highest degree a person can obtain. The commitment requires at least four years of working in servitude while receiving subsistence-level pay. But these conditions often pale in comparison to the psychological impact the process can have on one’s psyche. The final stage to complete a doctorate degree is to complete a major research project under the guidance and direction of a Dissertation Chair. Doctoral students will tell you that selecting the right Chair is the most important choice to be made in the entire program. This was never truer than in the current recounting of events.
