Description

With regard to this verse, Imam Bukhari and others narrated that 'Umar said, " my hopes are appropriate and accepted by God in three cases". One of them is he said to the Prophet, "O Messenger of Allah, how very like me to make the the Station of Abraham as a place of prayer." Then came this verse. Elsewhere, Ibn Mirdawaih narrated from 'Amr bin Maimun that when Umar bin Al-Khattab, walking past the the Station of Abraham, he asked the Prophet, "O Messenger of Allah, would not we be on the station beloved by Allah?" The Prophet said, "Yes". Then, he asked, "Is the place being a a place for prayer?: Not so long, come down this sentence. (Lubabun Nuqul: 18)

What is meant by (House of Kaaba) in this verse is the Temple of Al-Haram, the place of gathering of people from around the world who visited each year, and guaranteed to be safe by God. That is the meaning ( Matsaabatan wa amnaa). According to Mujahid, Al-Saddi and Ibn Abbas, (Place of assembly) is the place that always wanted to be visited. As for the meaning (place of peace) by Al-Saddi, is anyone who entered the Temple of Al-Haram will feel secure. While according to Mujahid, meaning (place of peace) is Allah protect the Temple of Al-Haram, so that fear does not enter. According to At-Tobari, this verse contains a command to the Prophet, and those who believe that to make the Station of Abraham as a place of prayer. According to Umar Ibn Khattab narrated, Umar Ibn Khattab said, "I said, O Messenger of Allah, if you make this place the Station of Abraham as the place for praying." Then came the text (and make the Station of Abraham as a place of prayer). The word (Wa'ahidna) literally means "Truth", but in this verse means "we command", according to the 'Atha and Ibn Zaid. So the purpose of the above verse is "We enjoined Ibrahim and Ismail to purify My House for those who Tawaf, meditate and pray." While purify the Temple of Al-Haram in the sentence is to purify from all forms of idolatry and polytheism.
