Labyrinth (Into the Dust Book 5)

"Labyrinth" is the fifth chapter in the "Into the Dust" series by authors Ren Cummins and Kiri Callaghan.

Following the events of Chapter 2: Avast, we learn what befell the would-be mutineer Gadrick No-Nails as he washes ashore at the mouth of one of Uphoria's darkest secrets: the Labyrinth. Who rules the maze, and will Gadrick find his way through before his fears find him?

First rule: survival. He’d watched enough…what were those called, again, those things on the flashing box at home? Shows? It’d been so long, he couldn’t really remember. Something about a guy who drank his own piss, hope it won’t come to that.

He sighed, coming to the realization that he had absolutely no idea where he was in this giant maze. He had no water, no food; so starvation would claim him in around three or four weeks, but thirst would end him in a third of that time. But his life had been a pirate’s life, and such realities were less fear and more a confirmation of the bold direction of their course across the unending seas. He might have even been content to simply stay here and wait it out, but a scream of pain made its way through the twists and turns of the halls around him into his ears. With a steadying breath, he picked a direction at random and began walking.
