Kwame

Kwame is an adventurous little boy who has been charged with guarding the “soul” of the African people. Set predominantly in ancient West Africa, this tale is a historical fiction based on the life of the great African leader Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The author gives a fictional account of the beginning of his journey to greatness to “redeem” and preserve the “soul” of the African people. Kwame is a story of African pride targeted at both continental Africans as well as those living in the Diaspora. The vivid descriptions of Timbuktu give the reader (between the ages of 6-10) a sense of the happiness, wealth, and overall well-being of the Africans before the start of colonialism. The children’s story Kwame is also a story of dreams and imaginations. It encourages children to dare to think beyond mere historical facts, and they would be surprised at what future tasks they might discover. But in order to make it happen, they must first “wake up” from the dream and get to work.
