Elephant Dance

A motor car, designed for rough roads, easy maintenance and DIY repair, is the dreamchild of two industrialists who merge their South African and American corporate interests, to form the African Car Manufacturing Company. The ever growing complexity of the modern car has diminished its usefulness and sales potential in remote areas and developing countries where service networks do not exist. This simple truth is the driving force behind ACMC. To forge the idea into reality, the company needs financial support, which introduces politicians from the Industrial Development Bank. IDB supports this project, which promises job creation and has major export potential but wants a measure of control to ensure investment security. ACMC executives resent any kind of political interference with the manufacturing process. This confrontation starts sleazy shenanigans and subversive trickery with each party trying to strengthen its position. In spite of shady backgrounds and greedy self-interest the car, with the brand name Elephant, gets built and is an acclaimed and immediate success.

This story is about human greatness up against human folly, with in the end a human price to pay for it.
