The Grey Cardinal Part 1 (The Assault)

In 1994, an international agreement that had been secretly in the making for several years was about to be consummated. The parties to the clandestine negotiations had gathered at the Virginia estate of the CEO of the company responsible for the whole idea. They were celebrating their final verbal agreement to formalize the pact and announce the breakthrough to the world. Until that evening, nothing has been put on paper because of the super sensitivity of the project’s purpose – retrieval of orbiting space junk of all kinds. Just as the group was congratulating itself on reaching this major milestone on their long journey together, a bomb snuffed out all the gathered members except one. As the investigation began, the local police were pre-empted by the FBI, and the CIA was quietly nosing around the edges.

Who was behind the mass assassination and why? The culprit or culprits seemed to have vanished into thin air. The company that made the project a real possibility suddenly fell victim to a clever, devastating cyber attack. Clues were beginning to point to responsibility outside the United States, but to an unexpected source. Would the FBI or CIA solve the puzzle? Would the culprit or culprits be brought to justice?
