Votes for Women! (A-Grade History Lectures Book 1)
Description
"Votes for Women!" is a short but full analysis of the way in which women in Britain won the vote in parliamentary elections. The peaceful persuasion of the Suffragists is given due weight, alongside the militancy of the more famous Suffragettes. The two main emphases of this lecture are: 1. The politics that caused the granting of the vote to be delayed, even when the arguments had been won. 2. The social and cultural context within which the political arguments took place, and which made the eventual granting of the vote inevitable.
The author has studied, taught and examined this topic for forty years. His imaginary reader is an ambitious exam candidate who wants something more advanced than a text-book but shorter than a monograph. As a result his letctures will also be ideal introductions to the subject for adults who gave up History at school but now wish to plug the gaps in their knowledge.
