The Legend of Spud Murphy

Will is absolutely terrified of the library. Not because books are dangerous (although he has his suspicions) but because of Spud Murphy. Taller than Will's dad and wider than his mum and both aunties put together, Spud Murphy is actually Mrs Murphy, the local librarian with a vendetta against little boys like Will. She got her name from the gas-powered gun she is said to keep under her desk, the one that fires whole spuds at anyone who dares to make even a peep or a single move - that's how poor Ugly Frank got his name.

But the unthinkable happens when Will, having been forced to go to the library, starts to love reading. He loves it so much that he reads every children's book in the library and all that is left is the strictly off-bounds adult area. Can he get past Mrs Murphy and get a new book to read, or is a flying spud coming his way?
