Description

ABOUT THE BOOK

For the Arkansas native who would one day hold the most powerful position in the world, giving in to failure was never an option. Starting with the words above, let us take a look at the life of a man who has embodied what it means to fail and, after hard work, to rise again. William "Bill" Clinton, the 42nd president of the United States of America, led one of the most celebrated, candid, and colorful tenures in the White House. Serving the country as its commander-in-chief for two terms from 1993 to 2001, Clinton is a man whose successes and failures were witnessed close-up by the entire world.

Best known for governing the country through its longest, most stable economic growth that led to low unemployment rates and budget surpluses, Clinton also focused on improving the quality of public education, upholding family time during times of illness, and promoting equal treatment towards people of different races and sexual preferences. The bright and charismatic leader is truly a history-maker - he is one of the youngest governors to be elected in America, the second Democratic President since Franklin Roosevelt to be elected a second term, and, more infamously, the first ever elected president to be impeached by the House of Representatives.

EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK

His potential for public service was honed in high school, when he attended the Arkansas Boys State civics program and was elected the state representative to the American Legion's Boy Nation. From this event came the famous photo of a young Bill Clinton shaking hands with then President Kennedy, a symbolic image of modern Democratic leadership being passed from one to another.

In college, Clinton studied International Affairs in Georgetown University beginning in 1964. Wasting no time, he joined the university's political scene as president of the freshman and sophomore classes. In his junior year however, he lost the election but found himself working for Senator Fulbright, one of his political heroes, on the Foreign Relations Committee. Both Clinton and Fulbright shared the same opinions against war, viewing it as immoral and, in every sense, a contradiction to what the United States stands for.

With his commitment to a life in politics very clearly staked out, Clinton won a Rhodes scholarship to study for two years at Oxford University following his graduation from Georgetown in 1968. He then studied law at Yale, where he met his future wife, Hillary Rodham, who shared the same political ambitions as he. They eventually married in 1975, two years after they graduated from law school.  The year was 1973. After Yale, the Clintons moved back to Bill's hometown in Arkansas, where he taught classes at the Fayetteville Law School.
