When what are thought to be Raiders try to strike at the farming world of Kodomir, its Militia, led by the former mercenaries called the Wild Geese, attacks them, only to discover their attackers are not Raiders but escaped slaves. To accomplish their mission, the Wild Geese need to bring the slave leader, Sarah O’Radler. But she and Gwielgi are in love and, a former slave himself, he has no illusions of the hell she is about to re-enter. The Currahee re-enter the scene and their relationship to both Kodomir and Barcat is revealed, a relationship that may cause the Geese to face almost certain destruction. As if fighting the Black Ravens is not enough, their mission to Barcat is complicated by the hidden agenda of an ally, an agenda that ultimately calls for the capture or death of the Wild Geese.
