Children of a Distant Star

Chris Wright is disturbed when his dog Nebbi starts giving him advice on his novel. He is even more upset when his wife Janet drugs him, burns the house down, and tries to shoot him. His parrot Kukulkan advises him to leave Boise, Idaho, and "head south," but can't explain why or where the final destination is. Even on his laptop, the characters in his novel warn him of terrible danger.

Someone, or something, is waiting for him down south, and people he's never met are stopping at nothing to keep him from getting there.
