The Mystery of the Chartreuse Shoes

Gert O'Connell, a retired widow from Ireland, narrates the story of how, while visiting her American friends Judith and Henry Geeth in Westchester County, New York during the summer of 1948, she found herself embroiled in the fatal poisoning of a spoiled young heiress. It seems the Geeths' friend Rose Schumeister, an elderly neighbor of the murdered woman, is a prime suspect in the case, much to her distress. The situation spurs Judith and Henry into action with Gert breathlessly in tow as they assume the roles of amateur detectives and launch their own investigation, much to the consternation of the local police. Through a series of inspired deductions and occasionally humorous bungling, the trio finally stumble upon the shocking solution to the mystery.
