The United States has broken its dependency on oil. The President announces new isolationist policies that close the borders to outsiders. The rest of the world, still dependent on oil, devolves into utter chaos and barbarism. Industry shuts down, economies crash, and in crumbling ruin, the world enters its Darkest Age. Those who can, try to sneak across the border and become US citizens.
September 18th, 2037:
The US Government passes a new law, requiring that all legal citizens report to processing centers for RFID tagging. Within months, all citizens have been 'Riffed'.
May 24th, 2042:
Unless 'Riffed', it is impossible to cross the secured US border. Desperate to regain stability, governments around the world concede to US demands in return for aid.
July 4th, 2042:
The President announces the dissolution of the US, British, German, Russian, Japanese and Chinese governments - The Coalition of Aligned Powers is born.
May 4th, 2052:
Khaled doesn’t remember his parents. He was picked out of the slums of Abu Dhabi when he was too young to remember anything more than hunger and fear. While, cleaning the storefront windows, he tries to ignore the looks of pity and condescension from the passing pedestrians. He is one of the 'untagged' - fit for menial labor and kept imprisoned when the workday ends. Dreaming of a better life, he doesn't notice the Citizen until it is too late. Colliding with bruising force, Khaled quickly discovers it was not an accident...
