Description
The story is about two neighbours, a giant and a dwarf. The giant calls the dwarf a friend but the nature of the friendship sets up a hidden hostility as grave as that of the open and ancient enmity between Ovw?, their village, and the neighbouring village of Owhe; it develops and runs parallel with it. The longstanding enmity between the two places has no equal in all the earth so that other worlds could not but take special note of it and this notice assumes the form of a severe affliction on both enemies. In every street, in every compound, where there was a married woman and there should be pleasure and joy, the priests and priestesses and their attendants had red elbows in the day and in the night. A child is born in one of the two villages who prays hard for mercy for his village and the world and who grows up to take one action one day which exerts a distinct influence on the quality of friendship between the giant and the dwarf.
A powerful story sober as a scripture and with impact gently potent.
To read the story is to have the storyteller come before you delivering the story right into your ears.
