It has been my pleasure to watch the development of the history notion in our schools for the past few years. While several topics have been worked out in the grades, the subject of this volume seems to be the most easily arranged for first year pupils. Miss Herbst, while herself thoroughly familiar with her subject, has submitted the manuscript to a careful Hebrew scholar, who has verified its statements.
