This second edition of the book includes all SQL scripts.
This book is based on my experiences as a consultant over a period of thirteen years, working first for Oracle for four years, and then as a private consultant. I worked across three fields – Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Finance, being the only consultant I ever knew who was given both titles – Manufacturing and Financials Consultant – on different sites.
This book should be of interest to all new consultants, to experienced consultants working outside of their specialised area, and to tech-savvy users who wish to create their own queries.
The essays in this book are largely designed to cover the more complex areas of the system, including multi-step transactions such as intercompany and internal sales orders, outside processing and consignment stock. They also cover procedures which may be needed in every factory – how to check stock (physical inventory and cycle count), or how to investigate stock losses.
The SQL scripts to give easy-to-use reports which can be downloaded into Excel. So many Oracle reports are difficult to use, especially where there is a lot of data. The SQL scripts also deal with the kind of problems which occur after a site has gone live, such as clearing up ahead of the inventory monthend. Again, some queries, notably in BOM and Routing, are there to validate data – for example to find finished goods with no BOM or route.
