Description
Kate, a newly qualified nurse, escapes from an alien Timelock (taking with her the baby placed in her arms while in stasis) and discovers she's on another planet, Cytrox, an alternative earth, but with two moons and unfamiliar stars.
To escape recapture by the alien Zonns, she must travel through their domain, inhabited by a tribal society of hunter herders and peasant farmers and traverse the eastern ranges. Then find her way through the unknown territory beyond to the Behid Straits and cross to the nearby continent of Gemena, a more progressive society and the baby's possible birthplace.
With only the goodwill of strangers, their covert hatred of alien Masters and her own abilities, Kate must find her own way in this new and strange world.
Reviews:
"With strong, likeable characters journeying through a well-realised fantastical world of varying technologies and peoples Éscape to Gemena'is a great debut novel - a genuine sci-fi/fantasty road trip" The gnomadic librarian
"To create a whole world, populate it with believable beings not unlike humans, add a measure of foreign fauna and flora, create new customs and words would tax the most creative person but Judeth Scott has achieved all this with attention to detail and an excellent story line.
The story takes the reader across a multitude of landscapes toward the location where Kate and the baby will ultimately find sanctuary - Gemena.
Judeth keeps her reader in mind the whole time, explaining along the way all the things that make her fictional planet different and why that is so.
The reader cannot fail to notice that while the book does have a definate conclusion and satisfactory ending, there is room for a sequel if the writer desires. And frankly, having invented and created so much that is new and fascinating; one would expect the author to make use of it again. I, for one, would read it"Excerpts taken from a review by Paul Brooks in the Wanganui Chronicle New Zealand
